2022 ACSA Superintendents' Symposium

Each year, the ACSA Member Assistance & Legal Support Team reviews approximately 100 Superintendent contracts. Some of these reviews are for new Superintendents who ask us to review their “proposed” contract, while other reviews are requested by experienced Superintendents who may simply be moving to another Superintendent’s position or seeking to revise their existing contract. In the course of conducting these reviews, the Advocates often find language that is problematic at best and potentially disastrous at worst. We, as Advocates, then send recommendations to the Superintendent for his/her consideration coupled with replacement language when appropriate. Our goal is always to provide each and every Superintendent with recommended contract language that provides the Superintendent with appropriate protections to which they are entitled. In addition, The Advocates will also share common issues for which Superintendents often call the MALST team for advice, including Board/Superintendent Relations and, when necessary, how to maneuver through a settlement agreement.
