Jorge Navarro began his teaching career in 1989 and was twice named his school’s Teacher of the Year. He holds an M.Ed. in English Education and was a Doctoral Candidate (Ph.D.) at the University of Florida. His research interests include bilingual education, immigration policy and assessment. Jorge has taught in Florida, New York City, and California. He ended his 15-year career in public education after serving as a district ELL Coordinator at the San Francisco Unified School District.
Before coming to Curriculum Associates, Jorge oversaw NWEA’s business development throughout the Middle and Near East. Jorge now serves as a Vice President of Multilingual Learner Advocacy at Curriculum Associates, partnering with large, urban school districts and key professional associations throughout the United States.
He also happens to be an accomplished musician, bilingual performer, and writer. Jorge’s unique combination of traditional Cuban music and indie rock has been featured on NPR’s ‘Morning Edition’, KQED’s ‘California Report, the Wall Street Journal, and National Geographic among many other media outlets.
